My experience with the Rezo Cut was amazing! I met Gerri Curtis, Owner of Planet Curls in Houston, Texas, probably a little over 10 years ago when she was one of the few stylists in the city that offered a DevaCut. At the time, Gerri was at a salon in the city, but I felt the specialized curly haircut was worth the drive into town. Gerri gave me an amazing haircut, style, and my curls instantly popped! The only problem was that when I inevitably decided to straighten my hair, it had a choppy look to it, as is the nature of the DevaCut when curly hair is straightened.
DevaCut Versus Rezo Cut
As many of the curly girls know, a DevaCut is cut given while the hair is dry on the curve of the curl producing an uneven look when straightened. If you are not straightening your hair; it is a good cut. Regardless, I went back to Gerri on and off for the past decade for the DevaCut. There were gaps of long periods of time when I wore my hair straight every day of every week, but I am always a curly girl at heart and eventually revert back to my curls.
Over time, Gerri has trained and mastered other cuts for curly hair. One of those cuts being the Rezo Cut. Nubia Suarez developed the cut and is the owner of the Rezo Salon located in New York City. It is a cutting technique that is used on dry hair working from the inside out. The Rezo Cut adds volume without sacrificing length and most importantly, the hair is cut evenly. The even cut allows you to wear your hair straight or curly. It is truly a versatile cut and I find it to be so beneficial for curly girls!
Team Volume
Planet Curls is a fun and eclectic salon located in the Heights, an area within the city of Houston. Gerri is an amazing listener and consults with you prior to cutting your hair. She is willing to provide you with tips while she cuts, washes, preps, and styles your curls. I immediately noticed the difference in the volume right after my haircut. Although I enjoy well-defined curls, I really love a lot of volume! I am a Texas girl after all, and I grew up in the ’80s!
The Products and Experience
Gerri used Innersense Organic Beauty products on my hair and the difference was instantaneous. My hair felt nourished and hydrated from application! The Innersense products are incredible and are highly concentrated, so a little truly goes a long way. I have very fine hair with medium density, so Gerri used a texturizing cream and light gel. One major difference in the product application was that Gerri left the conditioner in my hair. She used a small amount and spread it through the mid-section of my hair and below after washing. I thought it was spectacular that the products did not weigh my fine hair down. My hair has so much bounce, definition, and volume. I am elated with both the Rezo Cut and the Innersense products.
